Sunday marked the 500th day of operation of the Channel Deepening Project, Victoria’s largest marine infrastructure project and the biggest and most complex in the Port of Melbourne’s 150 year history.

Dredging operations as part of the project began on 8 February 2008. To date, some 19 million cubic metres of sand and silt have been removed, which equates to approximately 83% of the total amount to be dredged. The project remains within budget and on schedule for major dredging in Port Phillip Bay to be completed by 31 August.
