Russian defense ministry and Yantar Shipyard (Kaliningrad) recently signed a contract for construction of Project 11356 frigates under State Defense Order 2011, reported ITAR-TASS referring to a source in Military Industrial Committee at Russian Government.

Earlier on, the ministry had signed one contract with Admiralteyskie Verfi (for construction of non-nuclear subs) and two – with Zvezda Shipyard (Far East).
However, the largest contracts [with Sevmash shipyard] for Yury Dolgoruky class nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarines (Project 955) and Severodvinsk class nuclear-powered attack submarines (Project 885) under State Defense Order 2011 have not been signed so far.

Frigate of project 11356 is intended for combat operations in ocean and sea areas,searching and destruction of enemy’s submarines, anti-ship, anti-aircraft (anti-raid), anti-submarine defense of war ships and vessel in sea, attacks of war ships and vessel at sea, supporting of combat operations being executed by land forces, landing operations.
