APL, the world’s seventh largest container shipping carrier, won the Environment Protection Award for the second time in two years at the fifth Seatrade Asia Awards here this evening. An international panel of maritime judges honored APL from a field that included Maersk Line and Pacific Basin.

“We are honoured to earn this top industry accolade two years running,” said Goh Teik Poh, Regional President for APL in South Asia . “It shows that our commitment to sustainable global trade is gaining recognition from customers and industry players. We will continue to work towards greater energy efficiency and improving our environmental performance.”

The award win follows APL’s recent announcement that it was on course to reduce a key carbon exhaust measure by 30% by 2015 from its global shipping operations.

The Environment Protection Award was conferred on the organisation which had taken significant steps to invest in green technology, reduce its carbon footprint, and promote environmental awareness.
