Orient Overseas Container Lines’ (OOCL) new container ship, the 13,208-teu OOCL Brussels, was damaged during recent engine tests at Samsung Heavy Industries Geoje Island Shipyard in Korea.

As Seatrade-asia reports, Samsung accepted the blame for damage to two sections of tail shaft, including the aft section closest to the propeller. The full cost of the damage is being assessed at the moment. First estimates indicate that repairs could cost up to at least $2.25m.

OOCL placed an order for ten 13,000-TEU vessels at Samsung Heavy Industries in 2011. The first two mega vessels, OOCL Brussels and NYK Helios, were christened on January 18th at SHI.

Initially, the first delivery was scheduled for the end of January but will now have to be moved to late March.
