General cargo vessel Nikolay Bauman sunk on March 06 near the Danube Delta, Sea News Turkey reports.
The ship was loaded with 2,700 tons of gypsum, and was en route from Turkey to Ukraine, when it probably suffered water ingress which was the main reason for its sinking to 17 meters of water depth.
After the vessel sunk oil started to leak and now it is threatening an environmentally protected area on the Danube Delta, reported Arabs today.
The oil covers an area of more than five kilometers, and the local ports don’t have enough power to control the spill.
Maritime Bulletin informed that the crew of 11 people was rescued by Ukrainian Maritime Emergency rescuers.
