The Great Eastern Shipping Company Limited (GE Shipping) has placed an order for 2 new Kamsarmax dry bulk carriers with Tsuneishi Shipbuilding Co.Ltd, Japan.

Both vessels will be built at the yard’s facility in Philippines. The contracted ships, of about 81,600 dwt each, will be built according to the new eco-design features which will result in greater fuel efficiency and be in compliance with Energy Efficiency Design Index requirements.

The name KAMSARMAX derives from the ship’s length, which is the maximum possible for entry into the port of Kamsar in Guinea, West Africa. Kamsar is one of the world’s principal ports for bauxite.

The ship has 7 cargo holds, each with side-rolling type hatch covers. In addition, cargo hold hatchways are built at maximum width to improve the efficiency of loading and unloading. Grain crops, coal, and iron ore can all be loaded onto the ship.
