Goodchild Marine has often been faced with challenging design and construction requests for new structures or vessels, but a recent request for Titan Endeavour was particularly thought-provoking.

A new multi-beam echosounder transducer, costing over a quarter of a million pounds and weighing 60 kg, had to be fitted below the hulls through the moonpool on a rigid frame that could be raised and lowered and that, when lowered, repositioned the transducer in exactly its original position – every time.

Eventually the moonpool itself, built into the structure of the boat, had to be enlarged and a purpose-designed and built frame constructed to take the transducer assembly. Nicknamed ‘Trevor’ the whole assembly weighed 300 kg.

A stainless steel frame was fabricated with a winch and sheaves to lift and lower the assembly and after successful trials Titan Endeavour returned to her specialist role.
