The docking complex is one of the most important components of Zaliv’s production facilities, this being the place where large capacity shipbuilding along with ship-repair are carried out.
After an ultrasonic investigation of thickness of the metal shown that in some areas there was a 60% wear on the constructions, repair works on intermediate bulkheads have been launched at the yard.
This entails desilting of bulkhead walls, replacement of steel and its painting, along with repair of pumping equipment. After completion of these works the yard employees are going to repair the main bulkhead that will be dismantled with the assistance of divers to the specially manufactured pontoons. After this the dismantled pieces will be transported to the workshops of the yard wherein further outfitting will take place.
As explained by the yard’s chief engineer, the matter of reconstructing the graving dock appeared a long ago. Surely, the crane equipment and the air supply systems were repaired regularly. However, the repair of the main and intermediate bulkheads of the dock have not been performed since the moment of the dock’s commissioning.
Moreover, the works on repair of hot dip galvanizing zone, grinding and painting of pipes have been started as well. This set of works has been recommended by the German consulting company IMG, to increase production efficiency.
These works were planned more than a year ago, however, due to the large scope of shipbuilding works it was impossible to implement them. Current temporary down time in the yard gives the possibility to the supporting departments to perform required repair-renovation works before the working load of Zaliv restores to its maximum.
