Costa Rica’s labor ministry presented a proposal to invest around USD 260 million in Port of Limón and further USD 97.6 million in strengthening the Atlantic port authority Japdeva, in an effort to resolve a current dispute between the government and Japdeva Workers’ Union Sintrajap over the decision to grant APM Terminals the concession to build and operate a new container terminal in Moín.

A technical short-term study will also be made to identify the real impact of the entry into operation of APM Terminals, and the goal of converting the existing port into a modern cruise terminal.

According to the proposal, Japdeva’s share would cover the purchase of two Post Panamax gantry cranes and a tugboat, as well as the expansion of the Kogan Kogan terminal at the port of Moín.

Sintrajap has requested 48 hours to respond to the proposal.
