International cargoes handled by the Philippines’ Batangas Container Terminal (BCT) increased by as much as 762% in 2014 as Asian Terminals Inc. (ATI) ended the year with a consolidated throughput of 1.02 million twenty-footer-equivalent units (TEUs), up 8.6% from 2013.

BCT handled over 98,000 TEUs in 2014, its highest thus far in a single year.

In Manila South Harbor, ATI is increasing its rubber-tired gantry cranes (RTGs) to 23, adding five more RTGs by the 2nd quarter for a 50 percent fleet expansion since 2012. It will also grow its side-loader fleet by 50 percent, deploying six more units in February.

ATI is also eyeing to roll-out its Vehicle Booking System (VBS) this year, an automated system that will allow trucks controlled 24-hour access to the ports without causing heavy traffic on roads.
