The 9,106-dwt ship, built in 2008, was on its way from Singapore to Hong Kong when the fire occurred. Unconfirmed reports say that the boxship was making a stop in Vung Tau for engine-related repairs.

The ship is owned by Cp International Shipmanagement Shanghai, China and managed by Singapore-based Trust Maritime Services.
