Singapore-based shipping company Asiatic Lloyd has decided to equip its entire fleet with ballast water treatment systems (BWTSs).
As informed, Asiatic Lloyd Shipmanagement recently signed a fleet agreement with Norway’s BWTS provider Optimarin.
The contract encompasses 30 Optimarin Ballast Systems (OBS) that would be installed across the shipping company’s fleet of 1,000-9,000 TEU containerships.
The retrofit will be carried out from late 2019 to 2022, according to Optimarin.
In the third quarter of this year, Optimarin reported a year-on-year increase in sales of more than 100%, with order intake at an all-time high. The growth, consolidating the trend seen in the previous quarter, comes on the back of a number of new agreements with ship owners and operators.
“September’s IMO D2 deadline for BWT compliance has created, quite rightly, a sense of urgency in the market, and we are now seeing more activity than ever before,” Leiv Kallestad, Optimarin CEO, commented.
The Asiatic Lloyd & Atlantic Lloyd group of companies represents the shipowning and ship management activities of Germany’s K.F. Bunnemann family. The companies own and manage Post-Panamax bulk carriers and container vessels of 1,000-9,000 TEU capacity.
