Building on the joint delivery of several large data campaigns, Norway’s Shearwater GeoServices and Ireland-based XOCEAN have set up a strategic collaboration to provide integrated data solutions to the carbon capture and storage (CCS) and offshore wind markets.
The collaboration will combine Shearwater’s high-resolution seismic imaging expertise with XOCEAN’s ultra-low impact multi-disciplined uncrewed surface vessels (USVs) to deliver large volumes of ocean data and create new solutions for supporting and accelerating the energy transition.
The strategic partnership aims to explore technology and operational synergies to provide integrated data solutions to the CCS and offshore wind markets.
Last summer XOCEAN opened a new technical center near Carlingford, Co. Louth, that serves as a hub for its USV fleet and is seen as a key element in achieving the company’s target of displacing one million tons of carbon over the next five years through the delivery of carbon-neutral ocean data. The Irish company then revealed its intention to create 300 new jobs as part of its strategic growth plan.
Speaking about recent news coming from Shearwater, the company in April entered into an agreement with Switzerland’s Mondaic to develop and use full waveform inversion (FWI) solutions to enhance high-resolution subsurface imaging and optimize seismic acquisition surveys and also obtained an equity stake in the Swiss company.
