Crowley’s first LNG-ready product tanker set for christening

The first of Crowley Maritime’s four LNG-powered product tankers, the Ohio, will be christened at the Tampa Cruise Terminal on November 3.

The 50,000 dead-weight-tons, 330,000-barrel-capacity ship is the first tanker to receive the American Bureau of Shipping’s LNG-Ready Level 1 approval, meaning it can be converted to liquefied natural gas propulsion in the future, according to Crowley.

The vessel based on the Hyundai Mipo Dockyards design was built by Aker Philadelphia Shipyard where the remaining three ships will be constructed with deliveries expected through 2016.

Crowley added that the 600 feet long Ohio already completed two voyages to date.
