K Line names LNG newbuild

Japan’s Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha said that it has named the newly-built LNG carrier Bishu Maru at the Sakaide Shipyard of Kawasaki Heavy Industries on Tuesday.

Bishu Maru, will be on a long-term charter with Chubu Electric and will deliver the chilled gas from the Ichthys, Gorgon and Wheatstone LNG projects in Australia, K Line said in a statement.

The 164,700 cbm vessel has an overall length of 293 meters and width of 48.9 meters.

It was named after an old district in western Aichi Prefecture called Owari where an LNG receiving terminal of Chubu Electric is located, and is the second generation of tankers with the name.

The first LNG carrier to have this name was built at the same shipyard in 1983 and was also managed by K Line.
