Petrobras Fuel Tank Blast Kills Two Workers

Two workers were killed in an explosion on Wednesday, August 26, at a fuel-unloading terminal used by a unit of Brazil’s oil company Petroleo Brasileiro SA, the state-run company informed.

The heating unit is used to raise the temperature of bunker fuel facilitating its loading to ocean-going ships.

The two workers, employed by Petrobras Distribuidora, Petrobras subcontractor in charge of fuel distribution, were performing scheduled maintenance when the explosion occurred at the company’s Vitória, Terminal, located in the Tubarão Complex (ES).

Petrobras said that the subsequent fire from the explosion was put out by the emergency personnel adding that there were no risks for the surrounding population of the city of Vitoria, the capital of Brazil’s Espirito Santo state.

As informed, the cause of the explosion is not known and is being investigated by the company’s staff.
