Photos: Spanish Bulker Hit by Engine Room Fire

A fire broke out on board a Spanish-flagged bulk carrier Bahia de Alcudia on Monday, September 11 while the ship was in the Port of Tarragona, Spain.

The fire, which erupted in one of the boiler’s in the ship’s engine room, was extinguished by Spanish Maritime Safety Agency on the same day, the agency said.

The 2012-built ship was reportedly waiting for loading of coal cargo when the incident occurred.

As informed, there were no injuries to the eleven crew members manning the ship.

The extent of the damage to the ship is yet to be determined.

The cause of the fire is being investigated.

Based on the ship’s latest AIS data, it remains moored in the port.

The small handysize bulker, featuring 10,600 DWT, is owned by Spanish Alcudia and has a market value of USD 3.9 million, according to VesselsValue data.
