Samsung Heavy picks GTT tank design for two new LNG carriers

Korean shipyard Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) has ordered the tank design for two new LNG carriers from the French LNG containment specialist GTT.

GTT revealed in a statement that it has received an order from its partner Samsung Heavy for the tank design of two new LNGCs on behalf of a European ship owner. The shipowner remains undisclosed for the time being.

These two LNG carriers will have a total LNG tank capacity of 174,000 cbm per ship. They will specifically feature the Mark III Flex membrane containment system.

The shipyard will deliver the vessels in the last quarter of 2024 and the first quarter of 2026.

Following the latest news, Samsung Heavy’s order book for this year amounts to 33 vessels so far, representing 72 per cent of its annual order target.
