Navy Cruiser To Be Scrapped In Brownsville

Des Moines has been towed from the Philadelphia shipyard en route to Texas to be scrapped 45 years after it was decommissioned. The 717-foot ship was ordered during World War II, but wasn’t finished until after the war ended. It was one of the largest cruisers of its time, but it never saw combat.
