Rotterdam-based Chemgas Shipping’s new dual fuel coastal LPG-tanker Sundowner called Euroservices Terminal located at the outer port of Zeebrugge in Belgium for purging operations and LNG-bunkering on Tuesday.

The vessel had to change grade from last cargo raffinate-1 to next cargo isobutylene, Hoppe Maritime Group, a maritime services company said in its statement.

In order to accommodate the loading of the new cargo, the tanks were “purged with nitrogen until specifications of less than 1ppm last cargo, maximum 0,2 percent oxygen and a minimum dewpoint of -25°C, have been reached,” the company said.

With the purging operation, Chemgas performed LNG bunkering of the Sundowner in parallel. During the operation, 37 mt of LNG was supplied by Shell and delivered truck-to-ship by Schenk Tanktransport.

Chemgas has opted to use LNG as fuel for its newbuilds that include an inland vessel, Sirocco and two seagoing vessels the Sefarina and Sundowner. All three vessels are able to operate both on gas oil and LNG.
