Taiwanese shipping company Wan Hai Lines has held a naming ceremony for a new eco-friendly 13,000 TEU containership at Samsung Heavy Industries Geoje shipyard.

As explained, the vessel WAN HAI A13 is the seventh vessel in the 13,100 TEU series containerships signed by Wan Hai Lines Ltd. and Samsung Heavy Industries.

Six more vessels in the same series are yet to be completed and delivered.

These containerships, with a length overall of 335 meters, a breadth of 51 meters, a draft of 16 meters and a maximum cruising speed of 22 knots.

They are equipped with new engines and feature environmentally friendly designs such as full balanced twisted bulb rudders and pre-swirl fins, which help to achieve energy-saving and fuel-efficient effects.

In addition, these vessels have obtained “Smart Ship” notation, ensuring safe and reliable maritime transportation services.

In July last year, Wan Hai Lines signed a 10-year sustainability-linked shipping financing agreement with Standard Chartered Bank. The deal was signed for NT$3 billion ($96 million) financing. This marks the first sustainability-linked shipping finance done by the container shipping industry in Taiwan.
