British shipping company Ray Car Carriers has been linked to an order for four oil tankers at South Korean shipyard HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (HD KSOE).
HD KSOE revealed the order last week, stating that an undisclosed shipper from Europe signed up for four oil tankers scheduled for delivery by mid-December 2027.
According to Intermodal Shipbrokers, the shipowner behind the order for four ships is Ray Car Carriers, which primarily operates in the car carrier business.
Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries, one of HD KSOE’s three shipbuilding divisions, will build the tankers. The vessels will be powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG) and equipped with scrubbers.
The ships come with a price tag of KRW 688 billion ($525.4 million).
According to the data provided by VesselsValue, Ray Car Carriers, a British shipper linked to Israeli businessman Abraham Ungar, currently has 14 new ships on order. One of the company’s vessels recently was seized near Hodeida, Yemen.
Yemeni Armed Forces have taken responsibility for the seizure of Galaxy Leader.
Besides four new tankers, Ray Car Carriers has ten 7,500 CEU and 7,700 CEU car carriers on order at the South Korean shipyard. The vessels are scheduled for delivery between 2024 and 2028.
HD KSOE’s affiliates, Hyundai Mipo Dockyard and Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries, will build the ships, data provided by VesselsValue shows.
