Golar LNG, a Bermuda-headquartered owner and operator of liquefied natural gas (LNG) midstream infrastructure, has accelerated its expansion in the floating LNG (FLNG) market by acquiring an LNG carrier (LNGC) from NYK Line for conversion into its fourth FLNG unit.

Golar LNG has agreed to acquire the 2013-built Grace Dahlia LNG carrier from NYK Line, with the intention of using it for the conversion into its fourth FLNG (FLNG #4) ordered on August 12, 2026.

Set for delivery in 2029 from China’s CIMC Raffles shipyard, the vessel will boast a 20% larger storage capacity compared to the 3.5 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) FLNG Esperanza currently under construction, as Grace Dahlia has an LNG storage capacity of 177,427 cubic meters (cbm).

The Bermuda-headquartered player emphasized: “The larger storage capacity will provide prospective FLNG customers with additional offloading flexibility while retaining the benefits to Golar of a repeat MKII design.

“The FLNG #4 will be converted alongside FLNG Esperanza at CIMC Raffles’ Yantai shipyard in China. With redelivery scheduled for 2029, FLNG #4 represents the world’s earliest available FLNG capacity.”
