German tugboat operator Fairplay Towage Group has been nominated towage provider for the floating LNG terminals in Brunsbüttel, Stade and Wilhelmshaven by Deutsche Energy Terminal (DET), which, on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economics Affairs and Climate Action, operates LNG terminals Wilhelmshaven 1 and Brunsbüttel, and will operate the two upcoming ones Wilhelmshaven 2 and Stade.

The awarding came after a “quite exhausting” tender process and negotiations on terms and conditions, Fairplay said, adding that the company takes “great pride in the assignment of these vital services, to maintain the LNG supply in Germany,” and is most grateful for the confidence invested in Fairplay.

The contract started effective January 1, 2024, and will run for several years with extension options, according to Fairplay.

The public tender for the provision of tug services in the German LNG terminals was published in October 2023, and as stated by Fairplay, special attention, aside from prices, was paid to topics like quality management, training, transformation and transition, as well as tugs, equipment and performance.

To remind, Lithuanian energy terminal operator KN Energies has secured the public tender for the commercial management of the four mentioned German LNG terminals.

The services for the terminals will include managing commercial and logistics operations, gas dispatching processes, accounting and reporting of the commercial activities to the DET, development and provision of IT systems and tools and other terminal operational services adapted to the customer’s needs, KN revealed.
