Nexen to Carry Out Exploration Drilling on well 6507/8-8 (Norway)

Nexen Exploration Norge AS has been granted consent to carry out exploration drilling for well 6507/8-8

The well will be drilled in production licence 434 on Haltenbanken, 205 km NW of Ørlandet. The well has the coordinates N 63° 26′ 51.86”, E 5° 54′ 53.37”. The water depth at the site is 329 metres.

The plan is to start drilling in mid-January 2011 and this will last up to 72 days.

The exploration drilling will be carried out with the semi-submersible drilling facility Songa Delta (picture), which is owned by Songa Offshore and operated by Odfjell Drilling AS. The facility was built in 1981 at the Rauma Repola shipyard in Finland and received an Acknowledgement of Compliance (AoC) from the PSA in February 2004.

Nexen is the operator of production licence 434 with a 49 per cent ownership interest. The other participants in the production licence are Noreco ASA, Concedo ASA and E.ON-Ruhrgas Norge AS.
