Iran: Offshore Jacket Sinks in Persian Gulf
Iranian company Pars Oil & Gas is working to recover a platform jacket that sunk on Tuesday in the Persian Gulf.
Mehr reported that the jacket, which was being installed to support a natural gas platform, as a part of phase 13 of South Pars Project, plunged to a depth of 80 metres.
Bad weather conditions are preventing recovery attempts of the jacket weighing more than 1000 tonnes.
The company’s representative told Mehr that steps to fish out the $40 million structure would begin as soon as weather conditions in the area improve.
Pars Oil & Gas company did not immediately respond to Offshore Energy Today’s e-mail seeking comment.
The South Pars Gas Field, offshore southern Iran is estimated to contain 14.2 trillion cubic meters of in-place gas reserves.
