Det Norske to Use 'Maersk Giant' for North Sea Well

Det Norske has received consent to carry out exploration drilling of well 2/1-15 in production licence 542 in the Norwegian part of the North Sea using the Mærsk Giant jack-up drilling rig.

Water depth at the site is approximately 70 metres.

The planned start-up is 1 August 2013 with a duration of 60 days, depending on whether a discovery is made.

Mærsk Giant is a jack-up mobile drilling rig owned and operated by the A.P. Møller-Mærsk Group.

The rig was built in Japan by Hitachi and completed in 1986. Mærsk Giant can operate in water depths of up to 107 metres and accommodates 87 people.
