Iran: Gas Exports Up, Imports Down

Iran’s gas exports increased while its imports declined during the first six months of the current Iranian calendar year, managing director of the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC), Javad Owji said.

Addressing at regular sessions of high ranking oil officials with media representatives, he said: With regard to preparedness of all NIGC’s divisions, gas supply will stand at desirable levels in the coming winter.

According to the report of the public relations of the NIGC, Owji stated that, more than 5 billion cubic meters of gas were exported to Turkey during the first six months of the current Iranian calendar year, which show one percent increase in comparison to the same period last year.

Meanwhile, during the aforementioned period, gas imports from Turkmenistan declined by 2.7 billion cubic meters, which show 52% decrease compared with the same period last year.

Owji added that, falling gas imports was the result of maintenance in gas facilities of Iran and Turkmenistan over the first half of the year.

In regards gas export to Pakistan, he said that Iran will export gas to the neighboring country as of March 2014.
