Iran to Deliver 25 mcm of Gas to Iraq, Official Says

Iran will export 25 million cubic meters of natural gas to Iraq by the next Iranian year, managing director of the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC), Javad Owji announced.

He said that, according to initial agreement, Iran will deliver 25 million cubic meters of gas per day to Iraq via Ilam border to meet gas needs of Baghdad and Al-Mansoura power plants.

Under the aforesaid agreement, Iranian contractors will start construction of a 270-kilometer gas pipeline to Iraq.

With regards to the Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline, Owji said that construction work on Pakistan segment of the IP gas pipeline project would start during the next few days.

Under a direction by Iranian president, Iran’s private sector companies have started their activities in Pakistan, and Iranian banks will provide financial resources for construction of the pipeline.

He went on to say that, Iran has expressed its readiness for granting a 250 million dollar loan to the neighboring country as well as providing equipment.

In addition, it is planned Iranian and Pakistani companies form a joint venture for completion of the pipeline inside Pakistan territory.

Under a contract between the two countries, Iran will export annually 7.8 billion cubic meters of gas to the neighboring country as of March 2014.

Owji said Iran has exported 30 million cubic meters of natural gas to Turkey and currently imported some 15 to 20 from Turkmenistan.
