Iran to Export Gas to Iraq by Summer, Says Official

Iran wil export gas to Iraq by summer, managing director of the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC), Javad Owji announced.

Speaking on the sideline of the 18th International Oil, Gas, Refining and Petrochemical Exhibition, he said that Iran would start by exporting 25 million cubic meters of natural gas per day to Iraq.

According to the report of the public relations of the NIGC, as for gas exports to Europe, Owji said Iran intends to delivering gas to Europe via Iraqi and Syrian routes.

He said during the last calendar year to March 2012, Iran exported 8.4 bcm of natural gas and imported 4.5 bcm. The figures were up 3.5 bcm and 1.8 bcm respectively from a year before.

He also touched on using domestic capacities in the gas industry, saying: “Effective steps have been taken for benefiting from the capacities of Iranian companies in procuring equipment for the gas industry. The manufacturing of compressors has been indigenized at 80 percent while the manufacturing of turbines has been indigenized at 65 to 70 percent.”
