India: Kochi Terminal to Get LNG Cargo

Kochi Terminal to Get LNG Cargo

Petronet LNG of India, the country’s largest LNG importer, said it will commission its Kochi LNG terminal by early August with the arrival of the first LNG cargo on August 10, local media reported, citing the company’s CEO and Managing Director A K Balyan as saying.

We have contracted a cargo of LNG from RasGas of Qatar which will arrive on August 10. It will take about a week to test and commission the facilities,” he said

The terminal is located on a 40ha site in the Puthuvype special economic zone and will have a capacity of five million tons per annum.

However, the terminal would operate at just 7-8 per cent of the 5 million tonnes capacity in the first year in the absence of a pipeline to carry the fuel to Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.
