Oil Search: Kidukidu 1 Well Hits Total Depth

Oil Search reported that on 2 September, the Kidukidu 1 well was at a total depth of 2,697 metres and preparing to be plugged and abandoned.

Since the last report, the two sand intervals, of 51 metres and 21 metres gross thickness respectively, were evaluated with logs and found to be water bearing with minor gas saturations only.

The presence of substantial sandstones at the Pleistocene level in Kidukidu has de-risked one of the main uncertainties in the basin-floor fan sandstone play, confirming the broader potential of the Pleistocene stratigraphic level in the Gulf of Papua.

Kidukidu 1 was the third and final well to be drilled in the current Oil Search offshore Gulf of Papua campaign, which has resulted in gas discoveries at Flinders 1 and Hagana 1.

The Stena Clyde rig will now be released and the existing seismic data over the area will be calibrated with the rock data gathered, which will enable a thorough analysis of other prospective locations in the Gulf of Papua.
