ABS Finishes Specialized Lab Installation Project for Newbuild GOM Drillship

Advanced Building Services (ABS), expedited on deadline the completion of a highly customized, 10×30-foot geological/geophysical office for a newbuild, ultra-deepwater drillship in the Gulf of Mexico.

This “G&G” office was the fourth in a series of customized buildings that ABS has manufactured for new drillships in the Gulf. Fabricated to the exacting specifications of a global E&P company, ABS had to attain multiple DNV certifications requiring special coordination during the manufacturing process, and yet still meet strict delivery deadlines coinciding with the arrival of the new, state-of-the-art drillship.

Along the way, ABS demonstrated its operational flexibility to build and deliver the unit during a highly unusual and potentially catastrophic event, the 2011 flood of the Mississippi River along the banks of Vidalia, Louisiana. The Flood’s threat caused ABS to engage many of its 10 other locations for production until the threat subsided.

ABS Operations Manager Alex Mahfouz commented on the special manufacture and delivery:

Advanced Building Services is pleased to announce this accomplishment for our customer. This demonstrates our commitment to deliver high quality, customized, certified buildings with industry-leading turnaround times, no matter what circumstances challenge our operations.”

The geological/geophysical office buildings are approved by DNV for Class 1, Division 2 locations, with a DNV-approved A-60 fire rating. The buildings include redundant 3-ton air conditioning units with heat and pressurization, and feature an internal layout customized with workstations for geologist research.

While we believe this fulfillment time for such specialized buildings is already better than current industry lead times, we are on a path to excel even further,” remarked Mahfouz.
