Albania, Italy, Greece Publish Final joint Opinion on TAP Exemption Application

Following the publication of the final joint opinion on TAP’s Exemption Application today, by the national regulatory authorities of Albania (ERE), Greece (RAE) and Italy (AEEG), Lutz Landwehr, Commercial Director at TAP, who worked closely with all three national regulators of TAP’s host countries to process TAP’s Exemption Application, said:

“I would like to extend my thanks and appreciation to all three of the national regulators for their support in processing TAP’s Exemption Application. The application and the process which was undertaken, is the first of its kind and sets the benchmark for future Third Party Access exemption processes and applications under the Third Energy Package.

“TAP had to adhere to a regulatory and legal framework that involved both EU Member countries and contracting parties to the Energy Community under the EU’s third energy package. It was only with the extremely dedicated work of the national regulatory authorities and their excellent cooperation together, and with other relevant authorities – such as the respective ministries and the EU Commission – that made it possible for TAP to include the final exemption decision as part of its fully comprehensive Decision Support Package, and that led to TAP’s selection as the export route for Shah Deniz gas, by Shah Deniz in June this year.

“We look forward to our continued cooperation with the national regulatory authorities as the TAP project moves forward towards construction and operation.”
