Atlantic sells anchor handler to offshore wind market

Shipping company Atlantic Offshore has sold and delivered one of its anchor handling, tug, and supply (AHTS) vessels to an unnamed buyer.

The company said that the multi-purpose AHTS Ocean King was sold to an undisclosed German buyer and will be used in the offshore wind market.

The vessel has been laid up since late August 2016, after serving the Norwegian oil major Statoil for three decades. It began working for the oil company in 1986, two years after it was built.

Atlantic added that the AHTS was sold slightly above book value. VesselsValue, a website providing values for shipping vessels, estimates the value of the Ocean King at around $1.37 million.

Current AIS data places the vessel in the port of Frederikshavn, Denmark, and according to the data, it should depart from the port on Sunday and head for Bremerhaven in Germany.

The last time the vessel was under contract was when Statoil used an extension option on its contract from January to July 2, 2016. Apart from being an AHTS vessel, the Ocean King was also used as an emergency response and rescue vessel (ERRV).

The vessel, formerly known as Viking Queen, was built in 1984 at Hellesøy Th Skibsbyggeri. In 2006, the vessel was purchased by Ocean LanHoy KS and renamed to Ocean King. Before the sale, it was operated by Atlantic Offshore Management AS.

Ocean King is 75 meters long with a gross tonnage of 2,295 tons. The vessel, which can accommodate 43 persons, has four main engines with 2,310 kW of power each and a pair of bow thrusters with a 1,000 BHP each.
