Australia: Arrow Celebrates Anniversary of CSG Powered Station

Arrow Energy is celebrating the first anniversary of its ownership of Dalby’s gas-fired Braemar 2 power station with record reliability and no injuries in the last 12 months.

Arrow Energy CEO Andrew Faulkner said Braemar 2, Queensland’s second-largest gas-fired power station, had provided 365 days of uninterrupted electricity to about three per cent of Queensland and NSW.

“Tomorrow (July 4) marks the first anniversary of full ownership of the Braemar 2 power station, about 40km south-west of Dalby,” Mr Faulkner said.

“Braemar 2 is a gasfired peaking power station, providing 450MW of responsive generation at times of high electricity demand in Queensland.

“Its three 150MW Siemens turbines are powered by coal seam gas which means the plant has a smaller carbon footprint and emits about 40 per cent less carbon emission than coal-fired stations.

“In peak times, it can supply about five per cent of Queensland’s power generation or power up to 120,000 homes (based on average home consumption of 22KWh per day).

“Braemar 2 has generated almost 960GWh of electricity for the domestic national grid since July 2011.

“I’m most proud we’ve done this safely and without serious accident or injury.

“On March 6, it turned over 1000 days without a recordable injury.

“Arrow has a strong focus on safety in all its operations and the power station crew continues to do an exemplary job.”

The $550 million Braemar 2 power station began operating in June 2009 as a 50/50 joint venture with Arrow Energy and ERM Power.

Arrow bought a quarter stake in September 2010 and completed its buyout in the middle of 2011. July 4 marks the anniversary of the completion.
