Icon Energy Provides Update on Halifax 1 Shale Gas Well

Icon Energy provided an update in relation to the drilling of the Halifax1 well in ATP 855P, located in the Cooper Basin, Queensland.

Beach Energy (the Operator) has advised that the Halifax-1 well has reached a drilled depth of 2,878 metres in 8 ½” hole.

Since last advice to the market on 23 August the well has drilled a further 267 metres and has intersected formation tops as identified. The 9 5 / 8 ” casing was set at 2608 metres as per the drilling program.

At 2670 metres the well intersected an interval of sandstone with elevated gas values in the Nappamerri Formation approximately 530 metres above the primary target Roseneath Epsilon & Murteree (REM) section.

Wireline log data indicated a potentially productive gas-bearing interval for testing the best 7 metres thick sand at the top of the zone and a DST was carried out over the interval 2663.2 metres to 2681.8 metres. The test flowed dry gas at approximately 0.2 Mmscf/d over a four hour period however, a stable flow rate was not established.

The potential of the zone as a secondary target will be evaluated further during the logging program at the conclusion of the well.

The discovery of a gas column in an unexpected zone is an added bonus in the well and for future exploration in ATP 855.

Halifax 1 will evaluate the basin-centred shale gas potential in the REM and Patchawarra Formation intervals within the Queensland portion of the Nappamerri Trough with a planned total depth of 4130 metres.
