Bechtel nearing completion of Curtis Island LNG projects

LNG engineer Bechtel informed all three of the Curtis Island liquefied natural gas projects are operational following the first cargo shipped from Australia Pacific LNG plant on Saturday.

Of the total six trains being constructed by Bechtel on three separate LNG projects on Curtis Island near Gladstone, four have entered operation with the remaining two expected to come online in 2016, the company said in a statement on Monday.

In November 2015, Bechtel completely handed over the operatorship of the QCLNG plant to BG Group’s unit QGC while the first cargo from the Santos GLNG facility’s Train 1 was shipped in October to South Korea.

First liquefied natural gas from Santos LNG’s second train is expected to be shipped in the second quarter of 2016 while production at APLNG’s second train is expected to start by mid-2016.

Bechtel is also constructing the Chevron-operated Wheatstone LNG project in Western Australia that is also expected to ship its first cargo in 2016.
