Brazil: Rio Oil & Gas to Have Its Largest Edition This Year


The Rio Oil & Gas Expo and Conference, the largest petroleum and gas event in the Southern Hemisphere, will have its largest edition to date on September 13th-16th at the Riocentro, in Rio Janeiro.

It is expected that 40 thousand visitors will pass through the event during the four days it will be taking place. All five pavilions at the convention center will be occupied, as well as an additional area in tents, provided to allow for the great interest in the 1,300 exhibitors, which will include 12 international pavilions representing the United Kingdom, Norway, France, the United States, Holland, Denmark, China, Argentina, Belgium, Germany, Canada and Italy. Featured among the individual exhibitors will be Petrobras, Repsol and Chevron; suppliers such as Halliburton and Schlumberger; as well as agencies representing the industry and the various segments associated with oil, gas and biofuels activities.

“Rio Oil & Gas has now become consolidated on the calendar of the world industry as an event that attracts the major companies, the best technology and the most interesting discussions in the sector,” states Joao Carlos de Luca, President of the Instituto Brasileiro de Petroleo, Gas Natural e Biocombustiveis (IBP – Brazilian Institute of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels) and of the event’s organizing committee, whose theme this year will be From oil to biofuel: integrating knowledge and expanding the boundaries.

This edition of Rio Oil & Gas will feature an expansion of conference component of the event. In addition to a 50% increase in the number of panels compared to the last gathering, the conference will also be bigger in terms of the number of technical sessions and poster sessions. The technical committee has received a record number of 1,300 synopses of studies from 28 countries to be presented at the conference, which will be broken down into six thematic groups: Exploration and Production, Supply, Gas, Social and Environmental Responsibility, Legal and Economic Perspectives, and Biofuels.

Business Gathering

As at previous editions, there will be a Business Gathering bringing together the major buyers in the oil and gas market with the small and medium companies that supply goods and services to the industry. The Business Gathering is organized by the Organizacao Nacional da Industria do Petroleo (National Organization of the Petroleum Industry), in partnership with SEBRAE.

Industry is attracting young people to Rio Oil & Gas

With the aim of meeting the growing demand for specialized professionals in Brazil’s oil and gas sector, the program “Discovering the Professional of the Future” will take students from Brazil’s universities to attend Rio Oil & Gas. Around 1,700 students from 20 universities will participate in lecture and round-table programs, as well as visits to the booths of the most important petroleum companies operating in Brazil.
