Cuadrilla requests more time for additional mitigation

Following  Lancashire County Council’s Planning Officers recommendations to refuse planning consent for Cuadrilla’s two shale gas exploration licenses, the company requested to delay the determination of the planning applications.

According to a company statement, lessening any potential impact of its proposed operations on local residents is important. Therefore, Cuadrilla wrote to the Chair of Lancashire County Council’s Development Control Committee, regarding its planning applications for shale gas exploration at Preston New Road and Roseacre Wood, outlining additional information regarding further mitigation measures on noise and traffic concerns.

Due to the fact that the detail of this additional mitigation will require consultation as required by planning regulations, Cuadrilla requested deferral in the determination of its planning applications to allow for the consultation to take place and to avoid potential rejection of the applications.

As Cuadrilla informed earlier the Planning Officer’s recommendation to refuse planning permission for the Preston New Road exploration site was on the single ground of night-time noise levels at the nearest residential properties. For Roseacre Wood the Officer recommended refusal on two grounds, noise and traffic.

The company stressed its intention to resolve all the outlined issues and believes that these mitigations that will address all the issues need to be more widely discussed before the DCC determines the planning applications.
