The 7704 dwt freighter Ai Qi Shun, which went onto the rocks near the port of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, broke into two over high waves, Itar-Tass reports.

The Cambodia-flagged dry cargo ship registered at the port of Phnom Penh ran aground on September 2 due to a navigation mistake.

The ship carrying a crew of 21 Chinese citizens, 250 tons of fuel and 5,200 tons of building materials was severely damaged.

The engine room and hold No. 1 were flooded by a hole in the hull and about 100 kilograms of fuel leaked.

Owned by the Chinese company Tong Yuan Shipping, the vessel was staying aground at the accident site before cracking. The rescuers are on their way to the accident site.
