E.ON E&P drills duster in Norwegian Sea

E.ON E&P Norge AS, operator of production licence 650, has completed drilling wildcat well 6507/3-11 S located in the Norwegian Sea. The well is dry. 

The well was drilled about 12 kilometres east of the Skarv field in the Norwegian Sea. Water depth at the site is 350 metres.

The primary and secondary exploration targets for the well were to prove petroleum in Middle and Lower Jurassic reservoir rocks (the Fangst and Båt groups).

In the primary exploration target, the well encountered approx. 30 metres of reservoir rocks in the Garn formation and 60 metres of reservoir rocks in the Ile formation (the Fangst group), both with very good reservoir quality. In the secondary exploration target, about 95 and 70 metres of reservoir rocks were encountered in the Tilje and Åre formation in the Båt group, respectively, both with good to very good reservoir properties. The well is dry.

According to the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD), data acquisition has been carried out. The well is the first exploration well in production licence 650 and the licence was awarded in APA 2011.

The well was drilled to measured and vertical depths of 2470 and 2306 metres below the sea surface, respectively, and was terminated in the Åre formation in the Lower Jurassic. It will be permanently plugged and abandoned.

Well 6507/3-11 S was drilled by the Borgland Dolphin semi-submersible drilling rig, which will now proceed to production licence 248 in the North Sea to drill wildcat well 35/11-18 where Wintershall Norge AS is the operator.
