EIA: Henry Hub price drops

Natural gas spot prices in the United States were mixed in the week ending September 28 with the Henry Hub price falling 12¢ from last Wednesday, the Energy Information Administration said in its weekly report.

The Henry Hub spot price dropped from $2.98/million British thermal units (MMBtu) last Wednesday to $2.86/MMBtu two days ago, the EIA said in its report issued on Thursday.

At the Algonquin Citygate, which serves Boston-area consumers, prices went up 9¢ from $2.36/MMBtu last Wednesday, while at the Transco Zone 6 trading point for New York, prices increased 21¢ from 86¢/MMBtu last Wednesday to $1.07/MMBtu two day ago, the EIA said.

According to data from PointLogic, the average total supply of natural gas decreased by 1% compared with the previous report week. Dry production fell by 2% week over week, whereas average net imports from Canada increased by 2%.

There were no pipeline deliveries to Cheniere’s Sabine Pass liquefaction terminal because the facility is completing the second week of the scheduled maintenance of Trains 1 and 2, the EIA said.

Cheniere had said earlier that the four-week outage would include repair works to improve the performance of the flare systems at the Sabine Pass plant, as well as to perform scheduled maintenance to Train 1 and other facilities.

However, the facility continued to ship cargoes as the storage tanks were full prior going into this maintenance.

According to the EIA, one vessel with an LNG-carrying capacity of 2.8 Bcf was scheduled to dock at the terminal on Wednesday.
