Enagas: Spain Gas Demand Sets New Record

Demand for natural gas in Spain set a new annual record on December 2, of 1,429 GWh, which topped the previous high set on November 28, according to Enagás.

The cold front of the past few days has pushed demand for natural gas in Spain to a new 2013 high. Cold fronts generally have a knock-on effect in the ensuing days, when domestic and commercial consumption continue to rise even though temperatures move back to normal levels.

At the same time, natural gas consumed for power generation yesterday reached 333 GWh/day, its second highest level of the year, thanks in part to a smaller contribution by wind power.

The annual high in demand was exceeded comfortably, meeting the entire demand of the System and all export obligations.

Judging by weather forecasts, demand could set further highs throughout this week, Enagás added.
