Equipment damage weakens ‘Songa Encourage’ earnings

Drilling contractor Songa Offshore saw a decrease in April earnings for one of its Cat D drilling rigs due to damage to non-drilling equipment. 

The driller said on Wednesday that the Songa Encourage rig achieved an operating efficiency of 91% and an earnings efficiency of 88% for the month, working for Statoil in Norway.

According to the company, the downtime was related to minor damage to client’s non-drilling equipment.

This was not the first time for this Cat D rig to experience operational issues. To remind, the rig had to be repaired earlier this year at a sheltered location due to water ingress in the rig’s pump room. The rig returned to the Heidrun field at the beginning of February.

When it comes to the company’s other three Cat D rigs working for Statoil, Songa Equinox achieved an operating efficiency of 88% and an earnings efficiency of 87% for the month. The rig performed four days of planned maintenance during the month.

Further, Songa Endurance achieved an operating efficiency of 100% and an earnings efficiency of 99% for the month and Songa Enabler achieved an operating efficiency of 100% and an earnings efficiency of 88%. Earnings efficiency for Songa Enabler assumes a seven-day period on “Fishing Rate”.
