Faroe gets OK for Brasse appraisal

Faroe Petroleum has secured a nod from the Norwegian authorities to drill an appraisal well in the North Sea, off Norway.

The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate, which has granted the approval for the well, has said that the well 31/7-2 S will be drilled from the Deepsea Bergen drilling semi-submersible drilling rig.

Faroe recently made an oil and gas discovery in its operated Brasse exploration well in licence PL740 after which a decision was made to drill a sidetrack to help confirm both the reservoir distribution and hydrocarbon contacts. The latest well will be the third drilled in the licence.

Faroe Petroleum Norge AS is the operator with an ownership interest of 50 per cent, and Core Energy AS is a licensee with 50 per cent.

If Brasse is proven commercial, it could be tied-back to the Brage production facilities or alternatively to other nearby installations.
