First Smart PIG Launched by Iranian Experts

Iranian experts succeeded in designing and manufacturing smart pigs for the first time in the country, Research and Technology director at NIGC, Saeed Pakseresht said.

He went on to say that the device was manufactured in cooperation with Tehran University in a three year period.

The first Iran-made smart PIG has been used along the 110-kilometer, 30 inches gas pipeline between Qom and Arak cities, Iran’s SHANA news agency reported.

“Collecting various forms of data, carrying technical inspection, finding gas leakage and internal corrosionare among the capabilities of this smart pig,” he said.

Iran has 34,000 kilometers of high-pressure gas pipelines which are periodically inspected and tested by Pipeline Inspection Gauge (PIG) equipment.
