Gallery: Royal Caribbean Shows Off Its New Smartship

A brand new Royal Caribbean’s cruise ship, Quantum of the Seas, made her debut in Southampton, England, before her maiden voyage to her new home in the New York area.

Like the earlier Freedom and Oasis-class ships, the “Sports Court” on deck 15 aft will feature a Wave Loch Flowrider surf simulator and a rock-climbing wall. A new feature on the Quantum-class is “RipCord by iFLY”, a skydiving simulator set in a recirculating indoor recreational vertical wind tunnel.

The “NorthStar” observation tower, located at the forward end of the top deck, will use a 7.1-tonne (7.8-short-ton) glass-walled capsule on the end of a 41-meter-long (135 ft) crane arm to lift groups of up to 14 guests up and over the edge of the ship, reaching heights of up to 300 feet above the sea level.

Royal Caribbean has scheduled her official maiden voyage for November 23 from Cape Liberty, New Jersey to the Bahamas.

Until her arrival in Southampton, no one had really seen her.

For all those who haven’t had the chance to see this magnificent ship here is an exclusive sneak peek.
