The main summit opened on 3 December 2012 with His Excellency Nasser Al Jashmi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Oil and Gas in the Sultanate of Oman, and an overview of current local projects and mid-term projects. The day continued with enticing speeches, thought provoking presentations and the keynote debate focusing on various opportunities available to further enhance the gas industry.

The Gas Flaring Reduction Day on 5 December 2012 proved to be the perfect end of the Summit with over 40 participants gathering to discuss key technical and financial challenges faced on the road towards zero waste. Presentations and inputs from UOP, Salalah Methanol Company, Daleel Petroleum and Oman LNG provided a clear understanding on the companies’ strategies ahead.

QatarGas won the Middle East Leading Business of the Year Award for being the largest LNG producer to date, with over 42 tonnes of LNG per annum, opening new routes such as one to Singapore, and for its pioneering efforts to reduce waste and emissions (JBOG Project).

The Regional Ground-Breaking Gas Project of the Year award went to BP -Khazzan-Makarem – for its efforts and financial investment to boost the Omani gas sector which is an important test for the continued development of unconventional resources at a regional level.

Oman Gas Company was recognised for being the ‘Local Ground-Breaking Project of the Year’ for its LPG project, currently in concept phase in Salalah, which aims at maximising the diversification and revenue potential of natural resources in the Sultanate.
