Gazprom talks Sakhalin II expansion with Japanese partners

Gazprom’s head Alexey Miller held meetings with representatives of Mitsubishi Corporation and Mitsui discussing the Sakhalin II LNG project’s expansion.

Miller held meetings with Ken Kobayashi, President and CEO of Mitsubishi Corporation and Tatsuo Yasunaga, President and CEO of Mitsui, the company revealed in a statement.

The focus was on the cooperation within the Sakhalin II LNG project as well as on the construction of the third processing train.

Mitsubishi and Mitsui hold 10 percent and 12.5 percent stake in the project respectively with Gazprom owning 50 percent plus one share and Shell holding the remaining 27.5 percent.

In June this year, Gazprom and Shell signed the memorandum of implementing the project for constructing the third train that would raise the 9.6 million ton of LNG per year facility’s production capacity by 5.4 mtpa.
